The United States might miss the next World Cup

The United States football team might miss the 2018 World Cup if they fail to beat Guatemala. The United States has not missed a World Cup since 1990 and would want to give everything on the field to qualify.

They are currently third in their qualifying group with 4 points from 3 games. Trinidad and Tobago lead the group with 7 points and Guatemala is second with 6 points. The other team in the group is St.Vincent.
The United States, who has been previously unbeaten during 21 games against Guatemala, lost their first match on Friday 2-0. Their last defeat against Guatemala was way back in 1988. A repeat of this performance will be disastrous for the States, and they will have to watch the next World Cup on television. Even a draw may not be enough since they will then have to hope that Trinidad and Tobago win their fixture against Guatemala in September.

The United States coach Jurgen Klinsmann has stated that the match against Guatemala is a must-win one and that the players should be aware of their responsibilities. The team needs to show a sense of urgency and give everything they can to win the game.

Jurgen Klinsmann will also have to deal with some injuries in his team. Bedoya, who played the first game against Guatemala, is suffering from an ankle injury and will await a late fitness test to see whether he will be playing again. The coach has also brought it players such as Graham Zusi and Christian Pulisic to help the team in the absence of Besler, defender as well as Fabian Johnson, who plays in midfield.

Whatever the team Klinsmann send on the field, he will hope that they give everything to try and win the game. Else the remaining games will become difficult.
